Sarah Abraham, 1831

This delightful sampler, reminiscent of a wild rose garden, was stitched by Sarah Abraham in 1831. We have reproduced it very closely, using the colors on the back of the sampler as our guide.

All motifs are done in cross stitch, with the exception of a cluster of Queen stitches. The verse and the bunnies are worked "over one."

This sampler was reproduced and stitched by Helen Kelly, using a single strand of silk floss over one thread and two threads on 32 count Cream Belfast. We used both Soie d'Alger and Needlepoint silks to closely match the colors of the original sampler.

The stitch count is 231 by 235. On 32 count linen, the design size is 15 by 15 inches. On 36 count, 13 by 13 inches.

Floss required:

Soie d'Alger:1715, 1742 (lt blue), 1814, 1835, 1844, 1846, 2231, 2233, 2174, 4136, 5023.
