Mary Clark 1834 Sampler

Mary Clark completed her sampler in 1834, when she was 15 years old. She stitched her brothers' names, George, 18, and William, 11, along with her name as a tribute to her family.

Motifs include baskets of flowers, trees, crowns. acorns, and a border of many colors. The verse is very inspirational to all who read it and is the focus of the sampler.

  • He bids us read His Holy word,
  • and pray to have our sins forgiven.
  • Then He will guide us in the road,
  • that leads to happiness and heaven.

The sampler was faithfully reproduced and stitched by Carol Sessoms, using 36 count Irish tea linen with silk threads.

The Stitch count is 295 by 389. On 36 count linen, the design size is 16 1/2 by 21 1/2 inches.
