Lois Minshall 1832

While most early samplers were stitched by younger girls, Lois completed this sampler at age 16, although she may have begun it at a younger age.

The verse reads:

  • A Mother's love, how dear the name,
  • What bliss unfolds its sacred power.
  • Thenever may its fairest flame,
  • Illume my evry given hour.

This American sampler can possibly be from the Waynesville, Ohio, area because of the W baskets often seen on samplers from this area. It also has many motifs which are found in Quaker samplers.

Lois used mostly cross stitch with some Algerian eye and long arm cross. Our model is stitched on 32 count Belfast linen, using silk floss

Our model was reproduced and stitched by Edna Medlin.

The stitch count is 284 by 272. On 32 count linen the design measures 17 1/2 by 17 inches.

Chart:  $14.00
